Avery's Quilt

Project Baby Quilt

This project began to develop last in the fall following exciting family news from my sister.
A new arrival  expected during the early months of spring & making her a grandmother for the 3rd time. Wonderful season to bring a baby into the world, with ideas of spring welcoming all. Ideas of blooms n' buds 'n popping up & with butterflies fluttering. Colors and themes began to churn among my thoughts & with a new project brewing with a baby quilt.

Usually my projects begin with colors and with spring in mind- easy 'peasy & with many designs and patterns among fabrics and even better once known it would be a girl.
First step: Development & Collecting fabrics.
My collecting processes was underway and began with a few fabrics purchased several weeks before the holiday season began. Of course that meant many shopping venture collecting all my sources.
The first shopping venture for fabrics resulted bringing home 4 fabrics , 2 fabrics from one store and 2 from another local stores!  (Well, what can I say!. seriously  like to browse those fabrics stores when shopping  for the right and special choices). Feels to be part of the development!
With the holidays past, I had begun to dapple with the strip piecing and jelly rolls located among the quilting supplies. And to find my next step would be research. I began to make use with a few guides & tools and to find this handy tutorial source, Thirty hand made days   , which proved to be most helpful.

A new love and crafting avenue had formed for me when using  the "Jelly Rolls" available in many fabric stores, which are pre-cut quilting strips.  Found usually in 2.5 inch cut widths with several designs and patterns with various colors scheme. Usually the those rolls including 2 strips among the same pattern among and rolled into a pack with several strips .They are indeed useful & help to shorten the processes and quick start with quilting however knew  this special project would hold with more meaningful being it was going to be for a new little person entering our world. Part of the fun & development is finding those special fabrics. Colors choices with a sweet theme in mind began to take shape and an added personality once known it would be a girl.

During this period, I was  undergoing with Ms Darlings new wedding attire
which can be seen at this posted ...  Ms Darling's Wedding dress
A request and keepsake made from my daughter- in- law's wedding dress. Fun to enjoy one project while planning and shopping for another and keeping in mind to balance things back home too. Certainly provided me with adding some discipline among  schedules and my work.
And truly with some funny working in my own sewing loft. One day, I found strings attach all over me & even with my  sweet little furry terrier friend having one hanging off his nose! Lots of strings flying and movement from my sewing sources & all at once. The creative juices in full speed I suppose by then! But with moments of pure creative glee! And finding  reaping with many rewards in doing. The ahhhhhhh... moment was here for me.

Fabric Selected:
With fabric choices & ideas to collect, the themes and colors began moving forward from the newly planned nursery! And discoveries to behold in finding those choices were on target!
Pink & green with a bit of yellow in the mix now. And added to the pile  among earlier choices . Yellow is the color of the nursery. And it all begins to come together. Do believe my guardian angel sits on my shoulder! Thank you Mom!

The process begins with even more meaning with my sister sending a few pieces of fabric from her crafts stash unknown that I would make use of one of the fabrics she sent & now  added to the  collected fabric that will make this baby Quilt and become known as,
Avery's Quilt.

The nursery palette selections develops

My latest Quilt

Been busy finishing up with a new baby quilt this weekend. I decided 2 weeks ago, to make another Puff/biscuit/pillow quilt.  As soon as I located and purchased fabric for the puffs, I was right on it.  And to my luck, I already had a bag of filling and plenty of muslin for the backside to make the pillowing puffs. All I needed was the rainbow of pastel fabrics.  For this quilt, color choices included yellow and purple  with a few coordinating prints with hints of pink  after all, this is to be made for a newborn baby girl just born last week! I'm almost done today  and rather excited for it to be soon gifted.  However first, wanted to organize my journal progresses and edit my notes.  That made me begin to wonder, how many quilters really do journal their progresses  with notes, and as one is working on a project or quilt. I began to note how much better my work was flowing and as I kept up on my notes.  It made me focus a lot more, and  in

Project Baby Quilt Part 2: Group, Press, Cut, Regroup Play

Group- press-cut-regroup Today began the process grouping fabrics into a color palette. I divided the color into 3 groups. Green , pink & yellow.  Pressed each fabric piece by color group , and cut 2 strips each -measuring 2.5 in width from each fabric  A total of 18 strips when completed.     Green Strips The tips below were helpful to keep in mind as I ironed today and to cut, sew & pressed the sewn seams. Press each seam : Often reminded to press seams as sewn . And e ven more important when piecing a quilt!  I lightly "press" set each seam. This manner achieved by pressing & for best results and not necessarily as what is referred to as "ironing .   Press technique explained :  http://sewmamasew.com/blog View this video for more pressing tips : More tips : I also found helpful : pressing all seams in same direction. When sewn smoother and easier glide when machine sewn. And to keep in mind, se
