Paint Chip Challenge

I've been busy working on a new quilting group challenge, called Paint Chip. This challenge is based on 2 paint chip color choices and without limitations and guidelines to follow with this challenge. After days on end viewing paint colors and fabrics. My arrival is into utilizing these 2 paint colors with the 2 main matching fabric choices, and sure the color spectrum shall expand considering the printed fabric. I've  also begun working with my fantastic Quilting   Magic Mirror tool. Love this handy tool and how it displays varying kaleidoscope designs in my play I've decided to implement the color choice spectrum from the paint chip challenge group towards building some paper piecing units. During the play & formation phases, I began pulling together a few pieces. My first " cog" ( as I like refer to them ) is a Star flower shape called,  Dolley Madison Star ,  or of the found and known  Camelot Star by :   Barbara Brackman's Morris Hex

Fabric magic

Timing out today mirroring fabric with some play.  And as the magic unfolds,  I've begun cataloguing the designs forming in front of me!  I have my handy mirror tool ready to play along with this fabric Wow me with the magic and mirroring image......... And again...... And again.....  (whoops forgot to take the paper seal off in this shot!) I'm excited with all the design possiblitites and it is so fun discovering them!  It's quite so magical!! Finally, a chance to enjoy some playtime with fabric. It has been eye opening playing along with these special pieces of fabric that had been set aside for just this occasion, along with hopes into an intended project. Another project on the horizon ..and one to mark off that Quilt & fun bucket list. I have a few ideas, but first, more fabric with the mirroring designs. Stay tuned as I keep this magic going and with hopes to share more soon ...... Ha

Signature Q Blocks

A signature quilt in the works in the loft.  A plan in the making for the months ahead. The cuts done, units ready to assemble. The first cuts consist of 60 pieces which become the centers for the signature/ marking area in each unit. The fabric for these cuts are Ivory Kona cotton, measuring 5.5" x 5.5" squares once cut. Next the adding  3" x 3 " squares were cut. Those totaling results become 120 pieces for the future units and are combined using 3 different fabrics. he cuts done, units ready to assemble. UFO's ~Star Blocks

Recently came across this Blue Lone Star Block. This block was developed to build skills   resulting in taking one of my online quilting class.  This lesson was my first encounter working with   60 degree angles and dreaded Y seams. I knew it would be a challenge and yet favoring the possiblity  with the idea of forming a star. Lately I have been exploring border ideas.  With desires to finish this blue star block into a quilt top. Today, I have added 2 borders which frame the star block & pictured below . HST borders HST Border with frame blue border The photo below is a preview of another star formed sometime ago.  This star is a center section of another class work quilt  I believe, called Summer Stars.  And one I plan to pull out of the bin  and revisit to work on that quilt top .

Block work~Rediscovering UFO'S

I paused in the sewing loft for a time. A dry spell came over me from my sewing routines and in turn an event of purging came forward. And speaking of purging, for me it can almost become a treasure hunt within the collections of items on hand & specially now as a Quilter now- a -days. I pulled my UFO bins out.You know, those places where " unfinished objects" rest. I've also been going through my files, photos & quilt journals to match some of those " objects" with the patterns and to rediscovering them. How I'm wishing to pick back up on some of those and soon. Since my quilting and sewing skills have likely advanced since the time many were first formed, I am to think it shall be good as to see just how far I have come since I first formed them with my quilting abilities. Below I've posted a few of my quilt journal photos and hope to continue more quick post of those blocks as I revisit them and locate more information to share. The b

Freemotion Quilting on a Rising Star Update

My freemotion quilting has progressed & continued through the weekend. The white background section is completed and soon time to begin working on the color sections of this Rising Star Quilt.

Rising Star and Freemotion quilting

Summer has suddenly appeared while spring just bounced away. And I have finally found my way busy in the sewing loft once again. My year goal venture has been to explore wholecloth quilting and in turn expand on my Freemotion Quilting techniques  That desire has brought me to produce another quilt top to freemotion away. The pattern is called   "Rising Star" which appeared in the AQ  American Quilter  September 2017 issue. I've rather found just how much I have enjoyed this process,  and to expand abilitites with a variety of techniques with Freemotion Quilting. Currently my fondnesses with stitched designs fall with paisleys, pebbles and sqwizzly line sets with my freemotion techniques. This has also encouraged consistency in my freemotion flow  and with time to loose myself in what I love.  Music  and freemotion quilting.  My pebbling and paisleys The quilting is coming along and the process pleasing.
