Puff Quilt:Stepping forward

With turning to my committee of critic observers  (aka.. my daughters),  a decision to continue with the ruffle continued from their valued nods.  Off I went to the machine to work the ruffles in as a new week got underway. I reviewed a few ruffle techniques on a variety of quilt styles,  and reached a method I wished to use. Ruffle and binding   how to gather ruffles with dental floss   Plans soon began to drift in mind with ideas for the backing.  Next step for this quilt labeling; applying to the minky fabric before sewing layers together would prove wise. A little re-ordering of steps from normal  and in knowing that step to be easiest performed before  the layers are sewn and sandwiched together.   Considering textures and style.  A few aspects I've come to realize among sewing time to time. Is a little resorting and organizing of steps making it easier to sew  and reach a satisfying finish. The embroidered label was applied to th

Ruffles

The weather has improved and certainly enable us to enjoy the outdoors better.  I've continued to work on the Puff Quilt in between moments outdoors.  All the puffs are sewn together. Yay!   I've placed a  2.5 " border around the edge of the puffs  and begun to work on a ruffle.  I picked up 3 pieces of fabric among my latest trip to the local fabric store.   The border is a dotted light mint green. I picked up a piece of dotted minky fabric  in the same shade of green. So soft is this fabric! Wonder how well it sews!  Guess I will know soon! 4 strips where cut from the dotted green fabric with my recent purchase. I also choose to add small squares at each corner and joining to the green strips.  I cut 4 yellow gingham 3" squares for those. The other piece of fabric is for my ruffles. It has a white background and contains colorful dots.  Luckily this find contained dots with all the colors used with the puffs and to blend .

BISCUIT, PUFF, BUBBLE...

The days have been really hot & so humid this summer.  Not really anything unusual among our area ,  however those humid hot days have come our way  much earlier during our summer season than most . As the afternoon became less enduring outside ,  I've retreated inside to my sewing loft in order to escape  those humid and rather cumbersome afternoons.   I've begun a new baby quilt which started to take shape the past few days and hope to begin to share some of my progress.   I refer to this new baby quilt as my  " Puff Quilt" .  BISCUIT, PUFF, BUBBLE .....QUILT... The name "puff" rose during the early '60's.  Traditionally this quilt first referred as a "Biscuit Quilt".   The name given by the shape appearances which reminded the women who constructed them of their fluffy homemade biscuits! Yum! Tho' I did not gain any real knowledge from sources  to reason for the 60's-70's era nicknam
